Brookgreen Gardens

Brookgreen Gardens is a uniquely interesting 9,000 acre park that the whole family can enjoy. It was designed and developed in 1931 by Archer A. Huntington and his wife, a sculpture, Anna. Originally a rice plantation, the Huntington's created one of the South's most magnificent gardens. You will find 230 year old oak trees, boxwoods, azaleas, and exotic plants along with fountains and reflecting pools.

There is a 100-acre zoo and sculpture garden with 6 exhibits which feature mammals, birds and reptiles from the southeastern United States. Brookgreen Gardens often host fine art events such as concerts and lectures, and you can rent tapes that can be used on walking tours of the gardens and nature trails.
