Greenville, South Carolina Visitors Guide

Settled in 1797, Greenville, South Carolina is a city of tree lined streets and beautiful parks, nestled between manufacturing and textile plants. Here you will find Falls Park on the Reedy, the Liberty Bridge which overlooks a historic waterfall, museums, galleries, and assorted venues to make your stay a memorable experience.

For family fun, head to the Greenville Zoo or to Frankie’s Fun Park where you can play miniature golf, ride on go karts, try out the air bungee, play laser tag or increase your gaming skills at the arcade. At Discover Island Water park you can float on the lazy river, race down the water slide, plunge through the open tube slide and splish-splash in the wave pool. There is also a playground and other great family activities.

Greenville has several museums which house a wide range of art. At the Greenville County Museum you will see historical and contemporary works of American art along with changing displays of paintings, sculpture and photography. At the Bob Jones Collection of Religious Art (on the BJU campus), you will find rare Biblical materials, sacred art and architectural motifs from the 14th through 19th century. Other area museums are the Spartanburg County Museum of Art, and the Anderson County Arts Center.

Be sure to visit our Georgia tourism website to find out the best things to do and see in Georgia from cabin rentals in North Georgia to visiting the big city of Atlanta.

Greenville is home to three state parks-the Caesar’s Head State park, the Paris Mountain State Park, and the Table Rock State Park. At Caesar’s Head you will find hiking trails, picnic shelters, trailside camping, Raven Cliff Falls and a scenic overlook. Paris Mountain offers water activities on 3 lakes, nature and hiking trails, picnic area, a playground and camping hook-ups. The Table Rock State Park has swimming, fishing, boating and canoeing, as well as hiking trails, carpet golf, a nature center and nature and recreational programs. You can bring along your camping gear or rent a cabin then visit the store for any extras. You can choose to eat at the park’s restaurant or dine al fresco in the picnic area.

Greenville Zoo

Located on 170 acres by the Saluda River, the Greenville Zoo is great place to spend the morning or afternoon. While there you can “go” to Africa and see giraffes, lions or elephants, visit the South American rain forest and the reefs of the Pacific Ocean. You will see more than 2,000 animals in habitats designed to replicate the animal’s area of origin. There is an Aquarium-Reptile complex, a Birdhouse, daily sea lion and penguin feedings, scuba diving demonstrations, a petting zoo/farm, and nature trails. On the weekend you can visit the hands-on educational center and the Discovery room. There are also picnic shelters, outdoor vendors or you can eat inside at the Kanga Café.
